You know, there’s a joke running in libertarian circles that goes something like this: Fox News is little more than the CNN of the political right.
All too often, as a dude who’s certainly conservative to some extent, I’m constantly told by the radical left and even many liberals that I “need to stop watching only Fox News”.
I feel this relevant to mention because people seem to think that I am incapable of condemning fake news and propaganda that comes from people whose political ideology theoretically exists within the same space as mine. Well, in light of a news story that has recently surfaced, I have no qualms with doing just that. I thoroughly and wholeheartedly condemn the actions of Fox 4 and their forwarding of this reprehensible equivocation with regards to Botham Jean.
For those of us who do not know the full story, allow me to explain what had allegedly happened according to the police department. Police officer Amber Guyger had just come back to her apartment complex after a 15 hour shift in Dallas, Texas. She lives on the fourth floor, but parked on the third floor instead, being so woozy and disoriented from her long shift. She walked to the same door that would have been her apartment if she was on the fourth floor (the layout is the same for each floor), realized it was unlocked and slightly ajar, and then noticed a man in what she thought was her apartment. She ordered him to put his hands in the air, and when he didn’t, she fired two shots, killing him in his own home.
Lately, because the radical left wishes to make everything under the sun a bipartisan issue, we have seen the left castigate our men and women in blue for so-called racism. The right, seeing this as wrong, has rallied around law enforcement and asserted that they put their lives on the line on a daily basis. This sort of polarization is not just awful for the country in that it divides us, but is also bad in that it blinds people on both sides to realities they need to accept. The left refuses to look at the actual statistics regarding criminal behavior which surround blacks. Not everyone on the right is willing to admit that dirty cops DO exist because they are convinced all cops are absolute saints or can never make mistakes.
This is where the right wing media’s role comes in. Fox 4 apparently felt it absolutely necessary to smear the victim of this case and not mention any fault on Guyger’s part in their headline – “Search warrant: Marijuana found in Botham Jean‘s apartment after deadly shooting.”
What this woman did was absolutely unacceptable. She must be brought to justice for manslaughter at the very least, and the media on both sides of the aisle need to take a step back and realize that they are tearing this country apart. This kind of equivocation needs to be rooted out in all circles regardless of political leaning.
Fox News, for part of a media company that fervently decries exactly this sort of behavior from all the left-wing outlets, you most obviously have great issues with exactly the same thing. Go sort yourself out and come back when you can actually be an example.
