Life: What Really Matters

Have you ever heard the saying that life is not measured by how many breaths you take but by how moments take your breath away? Most people don’t understand what is important in life. So many think that money and glory are what life is about but think about it for a moment. Can you take your money with you? What good is glory if it only comes after you are no longer upon this earth? Why do people work so hard for things that in the end don’t really matter? Human nature tells us that life is about survival: Who can make more money, who can get more famous, or more glory? Life should be about helping fellow man. About putting aside your difference to help others who need it.

I have been called so many names over the years by people who were money hungry fools. People who thought you could buy love and happiness. Due to the fact that I don’t seek materialistic items, I have been called heartless. Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying working towards certain things is bad. Having financial security can be a blessing if you have struggled your whole life. Earning what you have is its own reward but so many people think that everything should be handed to them. If you want a nice house or car than work for it, just don’t lose yourself in that climb. For example, if you have small children and want to work for a better future for them that’s all fine and dandy. Just don’t work so hard trying to achieve their future and lose out on watching them grow in the present.

We often times lose sight of what’s happening in the now. We strive to achieve so much in the long run, that sometimes while we are chasing the future we are losing the present and without the present what’s the point of working for that future. You need to look so far ahead while maintaining life in the now. Don’t try to skip forward so fast that you stumble and don’t realize it until it’s too late. I went from struggling to being in a pretty comfortable situation financially but that didn’t mean my life was perfect. Behind closed doors, my life was a living hell, as the one person who said he was preparing for a vast future had lost sight of his present and didn’t realize it until it was too late. You can’t hurt people you love and care for just to gain control and power.

Take life one breath at a time because you never know when it will be your last. Cherish what is in front of you and move at a steady pace together in the direction you both wish to go. Forcing or dragging someone to go your way will not benefit you in the long run. In fact, it will hinder you. I may struggle on a daily basis but I don’t allow it to define me or break me. I picked up the pieces of my broken life not once but twice. It’s all about willpower and determinization and right now I have three amazing children that are the reason I do what I do and the reason I get up and breath every morning. Don’t lose yourself trying to achieve something that isn’t worth it. Be who you are and love yourself for it.
