MetaGamer: Nintendo Direct September 2017

Releases December 1 2017 (Credit: Nintendo)

Over a week ago, Nintendo did a very informative Nintendo Direct with tons of info on new games for the Switch and the 3DS. Also as I dropped the ball and did not do a MetaGamer monthly for September, I will write a preview of one of the PS4 exclusives that is currently free to PlayStaion Plus subscribers. Also plan on doing a detailed article on Super Mario Odyssey before it releases at the end of the October.

Infamous: Second Son

Originally released in March of 2014, Infamous: Second Son follows Delsin Rowe. Delsin is a Native American (of the fictional Akomish tribe) living outside of Seattle, who usually gets into trouble (he paints graffiti on buildings). After an escaped conduit (people who gained powers after the incidents in the first two Infamous games on the PS3) comes to his tribe’s reservation, he gains smoke powers. Like Cole (the protagonist of the first two games) Delsin is proficient in parkour and can climb buildings with ease.

After the D.U.P. (a group charged with rounding up Conduits) agent Augustine attacks his people with her concrete powers while looking for the escaped Conduit, Delsin, and his brother chase her to Seattle to get her powers and help his tribe.

As in previous games, you can choose to be the Hero or the bad guy and become Infamous. Depending on what path you take Delsin’s appearance changes. His outfit changes to blues and whites in the Hero path, and blacks and reds in the Infamous path. NPCs in the game will also treat Delsin differently depending on what path he follows. He can also influence two other NPCs in the game (other escaped Conduits) and make them heroes or villains depending on his actions.

Throughout the game, you can gain others powers, such as Neon, Video, and Concrete. Each power set allows for different forms of travel and Delsin can switch between them (after a certain point), by absorbing smoke for Smoke, neon signs for Neon, and video monitors for Video. Delsin can only switch to Concrete (which he gets near the end of the game) by absorbing other conduits who have the Concrete power.

Infamous: Second Son is an open world game that allows you to travel around a fictionalized version of Seattle, Washington. There are a ton of easter eggs in the game, that reference the previous infamous games and the Sly Cooper games (another game series made by Suckerpunch).
