Meta Gamer Monthly April 2017

Releases April 18

UPDATED: April 9th 8:20 pm Eastern

This month we got the specs on Xbox’s Project Scorpio, a release date and trailer for Telltale’s game Guardians of the Galaxy (based on the popular movie franchise), and news pertaining to game store giant GameStop.

GameStop is set to close at least 150 stores this fiscal year due to declining sales, citing poor sales during the holiday season, and other retail stores “aggressive” promotional techniques. (source: Fortune).

Information Breach

According to, Gamestop is investigating a possible breach of their website and customers information may have been stolen. I will give an update when more information is avaiable. (source:

Constructor HD

Originally released for PC in 1997, Constructor is a city simulator similar to SimCity except you have to defend against Undesirables (like the Mafia) or you can play the Undesirables themselves. It is being remastered for PC and today’s consoles. You either play against the computer or can players can compete to destroy each other’s cities.

Constructor HD is Rated ESRB: RP*

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series

I reported earlier this year that Telltale was making a Guardians of the Galaxy series. Telltale is famous for their The Walking Dead episodic games. The game finally has a trailer and releases later this month.

Episode 1 (MSRP) $4.99, Season Pass Disc for PS4, Xbox One (MSRP) TBA
Episode 1 comes out April 18 for Mobile (Android, iOS), PC, PS4, Xbox One

Mass Effect Andromeda

Mass Effect Andromeda finally released last month with a less than perfect launch, as it is more glitchy then the previous entries in the series. Bioware is addressing some of these issues with a major patch fixing some of the glitches. Among some of the fixes:

  • Lip-sync and facial acting improvements
  • Improvements to the appearance of Human and Asari eyes

Full patch notes here:

Outlast 2

Last month I reported that Outlast 2 was banned in Australia. According to the developer originally sent the wrong video to the rating board. The original video, that contained the objectionable material, is what led to the original ban. Outlast 2 will be now released in Australia with a R18+ rating. (Source: Outlast 2 releases later this month.

Outlast 2 is rated ESRB: M*
Outlast 2 (MSRP) $39.99 comes out April 25 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Update: Forgot to mention again that Nintendo has doubled the order of the Switch starting this month. Best Buy, Toys’R’Us and Target (at least my local Target did) should all have some in stock.

April Fool’s Prank

GameSpot (not to be confused with the store GameStop) played an elaborate April Fool’s prank by making a video to show how to commandeer a Guardian in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (I will admit to falling to the prank since it was really well done). GameSpot also made a behinds the scenes video to show how the prank was accomplished.
