Meta Entertainment Monthly March 2017

Coming to Netflix Friday March 17th

This month we have have a lot of good stuff. Netflix has a ton of original series and movies, one is highly anticipated. Also have some early info on shows in development for Netflix and Hulu.

In case anyone is trying to find new episodes of Lucifer on FOX, it’s on a long hiatus until sometime in May.

I failed to mention the CW show Riverdale in last month’s article as I was skeptical of it being any good. As it comes on after Supernatural I gave it a chance and it’s now one of my favorite shows.

Based on Archie Comics, Riverdale adds a dark twist to the Archie lore. It’s basically Beverly Hills 90210 meets Twin Peaks meets Archie, as the first season mainly revolves around the mysterious disappearance of Jason Blossom over the Summer break. Riverdale is currently five episodes in and has revealed more mysteries and family secrets that revolve around Jason’s death.

The show also features Josie and the Pussycats, and may have Sabrina the Teenage Witch (as she is originally from the Archie “Universe”) appear later this season. Kevin Keller, who was the first Gay Archie character introduced back in 2010, is a regular character and best friends with Betty and Veronica. The show also has Beverly Hills 90210 alum Luke Perry as Archie’s Dad.

The first five episodes are available on CW’s website:

Riverdale starring KJ Apa as Archie, Lili Reinhart as Betty, and Camila Mendes as Veronica, airs Thursday’s on the CW at 9:00 pm Eastern after Supernatural.

Baby Daddy

The sixth season of Baby Daddy starts this month. Baby Daddy is the story of Ben Wheeler a guy trying to balance the single life and being a dad, after a one night stand leaves a baby at his doorstep. Love triangles and hilarity ensue.

Melissa Peterman of Reba fame plays his over the top Bon Jovi loving Mom (she even gave him the middle name Bon Jovi.) He is roommates with short friend Tucker (who is recognizable as Michelle’s friend from Full House) and his giant sexy and not too bright, hockey playing brother Danny. The cast is rounded out by Ben and Danny’s childhood friend who Danny has loved since they were kids despite her being fat (though she lost all her weight after highschool).

The first five seasons available are on Netflix.

Baby Daddy returns for season 6 at it’s new time Monday March 13th on Freeform at 8:00 pm Eastern

Returns Monday March 13th on Freeform

A guilty pleasure of mine Catfish returns for his 6th season this month. Nev and Max resume their journey finding the true faces behind the profile pics.

The first five season of Catfish are available on Hulu

Catfish returns for season 6 Wednesday March 1st on MTV at 8:00pm Eastern.

RuPaul’s Drag Race

Another guilty pleasure of mine, RuPaul’s Drag Races returns for season 9 this March. Hopefully they will go back to the old way of doing Untucked (the after show) as the last few seasons have been boring. RuPaul’s Drag Race is moving to VH1 with episodes encored on Logo.

Seasons 2 through 8 can be found on YouTube for $1.99 per episode and Logo’s official website.

RuPaul’s Drag Race returns for season 9 Friday March 24th on VH1 8:00 Easter with encores on Logo.

Resident Evil: Vendetta

The third animated Resident Evil movie comes out later this year. The animated movies are unrelated to the live action franchise with Mila Jovavivh, which had it’s last movie earlier this year. All of three of the CGI movies take place in the game universe and bridge the gap between games.

The first one Resident Evil: Degeneration takes place between games 4 and 5 and reunites Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield who first appear in the second game. The second one Resident Evil: Damnation reunites Leon with Ada Wong who also first appeared in the second game and bridges the gap between games 5 and 6.

Resident Evil: Vendetta will have Leon working with Claire’s brother Chris (They first met briefly in game 6) and Rebecca Chambers who first appears in the original game with Chris and in the prequel Resident Evil 0. They will confront a man who is picking up the remnants of Tricell (successor to Umbrella Corp) and Umbrella Corp, It will bridge the gap between games 6 and 7, and hopefully answer some questions that ending of the latest game raised.

Resident Evil: Degeneration is available on DVD (it has some cool special features). Resident Evil: Damnation is available on DVD/Blu-Ray.

Resident Evil: Vendetta will be released in theaters (which is a first as the first two CGI movies were straight to DVD/Blu-Ray) sometime this Spring.

Netflix has a ton of originals coming this month. Fifteen series, including the highly anticipated Marvel’s Iron Fist, four stand-up comedy specials and five movies.

Marvel’s Iron Fist

Iron Fist is the latest in Marvel’s Netflix series, following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. First appearing in the comics in the 70’s. Iron Fist is the story of American Danny Rand gaining the powers of Iron Fist in the mystical city of K’un L’un. All four series will crossover in the upcoming Defender’s miniseries later this year. Rosario Dawson reprises her character Claire Temple, who has appeared in all four series including both seasons of Daredevil.

The first two seasons of Daredevil (Which I highly recommend. The hallway fight scene in the first season and the stairway fight scene in the second season are some of the best ever filmed. The second season also introduces a new version of the Punisher with Jon Bernthal of The Walking Dead, who is getting his own series.) Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage are currently available on Netflix in 4K.

Marvel’s Iron Fist starring Finn Jones as Daniel Rand and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, premieres on Netflix Friday March 17th.

Stranger Things

During Superbowl LI Netflix aired a teaser for the second season of the cult hit Stranger Things. The teasers shows a giant mysterious spider like creature and the kids dressed as the Ghostbusters (so this presumably takes places after the original Ghostbusters movie.) Unfortunately season 2 doesn’t come to Netflix until Halloween.

Strangers Things season 1 is currently available on Netflix.

Still in development for Netflix, is an animated series based on the popular videogame Castlevania.
This is the official info available on Netflix’s site:

“Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.”

Warren Ellis who is producing and writing the show is a well know comic book writer.

As this is still in development no word on release date as of yet.
