It may be getting hard for you to call yourself a Christian.
This is probably not because you lost your faith in Christ but because you have lost your faith in your environment. It has become a cesspool of “devout” Christians and hate-leaning Evangelists. Your proclamation of being a follower of Christ comes with a slight fear that people will see you as one of “those” Christians.
“Christian” hate groups have come out of the woodwork as of late. Those who proclaim a theocracy above Human law. They long for the “Christian America.” Maybe they don’t want “White Only” signs in every window but they wouldn’t bat an eye opposing it if they saw it in plain view. They may even be so bold to wanting an early version where “Christian America” massacred whole Native tribes because such devout Christianity was easily explained by verses of the Bible; either taken out of context or otherwise. Christians once tortured and murdered people based on their lack of ideological purity…people who were Christians but didn’t follow the Church.
Don’t gather much from that but it was a Christian America based on history of hate-leaning evangelism. A bloody path of Evangelists oppressing and murdering in the name of Christ.
Modern Evangelism has taught victim to itself. They are the ones persecuted for their religious “beliefs.” Even if those beliefs would be considered extreme or at least damaging to the evolving society of acceptance. Legislation that would normally not pass for its favoring Christianity and calling it “Religious Freedom Act” and whatnot. They need a special amendment to the First Amendment that would grant them special rights above all other religions or secular institutions.
Christ wasn’t a Christian. He had lived to express love and care towards people; an undying, unbridled understanding of his fellow man. The sins of his fellow man were to be forgiven, not put on trial. Was Christ the last “Christian?” even if he wasn’t by name but by action?
Your persecution in America is not like the persecution in Egypt, Syria, and Iraq. You are not beaten, robbed, and killed for being Christian…you are simply put under scrutiny for your words and your actions. Those words and actions that shy away from being of real Christian morality. It is your heresy under that view alone that you face persecution for. You are clinging to a world that cannot coexist with the rest of society, even if theocracy was the word of God. You have refused the right to sell cakes and give services to anyone who “offends” your religious beliefs.
“I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. If anyone demands you of your tunic, in turn give him your cloak as well.” — Matthew 5:39-40
You lose your credibility when you demand tax exemptions for your extravagant buildings and you do it in the name of Jesus who once said, “Render unto Caesar that which belongs to Caesar.” People under the guise of prosperity gospel who demand tithes to further their own wealth and claim it is to help the poor get richer. Give them your “seed” so that it may bear fruit for you.
“Blessed are the meek.” — Matthew 5:5
Christian leaders are calling for war against Muslim nations around the world. They wish to seek destruction of a billion people because they see them as a threat to them. They lose credibility when they are war-willing and claim it is against a war-willing religion.
“Blessed are the merciful.” — Matthew 5:7
Christians are willing to rise up against federal law, against the government in the event of recognizing same-sex marriage. They want to create a division among those who would seek tolerance and those who want legal vengeance against such institutions. They do not see hypocrisy. They being ones who have divorced once, twice… Marriage, that sacred institution they claim is between one man, one woman, and their God. Or at least that is their claim. When you have relations outside your first marriage, even if it is with your second husband or wife, it is adultery to your first marriage and to God.
“Blessed are the peacemakers.” — Matthew 5:9
Christians are making idols of themselves, of their beliefs. Instead of focusing on the word of God, they are focusing on their “rights” in the same breath of being of the Lord who gave up all His rights, his freedom, and every bit of power that was offered to Him. False Christianity has become martyred and they have trivialized true persecution. If you are truly being persecuted, you will be rewarded for your faith. Evangelism has done nothing but seek vengeance to those who question their beliefs, they are rushing to demand for special freedoms to express their testament of intolerance…they wish to be of the only importance here on Earth. In doing so, they are damning themselves to God and to the Word they hold so dear.
“And He said to them, ‘You shall love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'” — Matthew 22:37-39
